Summary Note

Summary: First three verses say evil deeds should be dreaded (201-203), next six say that evil done to other by us bring evil to oneself (204-209), and last says that he who does no evil suffers no evil (210).The message in this chapter is that we should fear evil deeds. The Christian prayer taught by Jesus also ends with fear of evil deeds and thus requests God’s help, guidance and grace to deliver us from the evil one. Here it is:

"This, then, is how you should pray:
'Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come,
your will be done
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from the evil one.'"

– Jesus Christ, Sermon on the Mount, Matthew 6.9-13, The Bible [3]
